Blog Improvements

I love working on smaller development projects like the PayPerPost Blog and the Blogger's Choice Awards, partly because of the instant gratification of enhancements that roll out quickly. (I get to sneak a lot by QA… Shhhh, don't tell anyone).

A few days ago I quietly rolled out a comments RSS feed for each of the four PayPerPost blogs. This is a feature for the more neurotic among us (::cough:: Ted ::cough::) so that we can always know what conversations are happening on the PPP blogs. You can subscribe to the comments feeds from any of the individual post pages. Just look for the RSS link next to the comments header. The RSS link on an individual blog entry page will take you to the comments feed for its parent blog. Pretty cool eh?

Also, in response to a comment left on Dan's post this morning, I managed to get the number of comments for a post to show on the blog portal page. It's a small detail, but completely annoying when it's not there.

Keep the great feedback coming!

Firefox soars past Internet Explorer

Over the past 7 months a remarkable thing has happened. Despite the fact that IE is so tightly coupled with Windows we have watched Firefox gain an incredible amount of traction (at least as it relates to our site). In January of 2007 IE was the primary browser be utilized by our users, commanding 48.64% of all views, while Firefox for Windows weighed in at 37.72% and FF or Mac contributed 5.51%. That has dramatically changed as the stats for July 2007 illustrate below:

broswers

Firefox for Windows now accounts for 50.82% of all our traffic and FF for Mac contributes 3.21%. IE has also gained some ground, but to see Firefox take the lead is amazing given the size of the IE install base. What do your stats look like? Are you seeing the same thing?

We're Home!

The PayPerPost blog is at home with its new host and blogging platform, TypePad. We are really excited to take advantage of comments, trackbacks, MovableType, and a host of other features TypePad has to offer. Remember we've split the main PayPerPost blog into four separate blogs — Advertiser, Community, Postie, and Development.

Your RSS feeds (RSS 2.0 and Atom) should still work for all blog posts (I worked with our Super Sysadmin Guru Ninja Mark to make that happen). All four blog feeds are combined into one using FeedBlendr (those guys are cool). You can also grab the individual blog feeds, if that suits your fancy.

Hope you like the new digs!

PayPerPost for Facebook!

I am pleased to announce that we have released an application for all of you Facebook users out there. This application will allow you to link your Facebook account to your PayPerPost account. There are a variety of features for both Advertisers and Posties, we will have a video tutorial posted early next week. If you are an early adopter and want to check it out before we give you the video click here. One important thing to note. You PPP Facebook account is tied into the PPP affiliate engine for Posties (Blogger accounts only). If someone signs up and starts blogging for us based on your referral you are eligible for the same $15 you would have gotten if they signed up through your blog. What are you waiting for!?!? Get it going and start inviting your Facebook friends.

I am relatively new to Facebook and looking to make some Postie friends. If you want to be my friend click here: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=757025231

We also have a PPP Group on Facebook here : http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2334228052

Brief downtime

We will be bringing down the site for a few minutes at 4pm today to roll out some bug fixes. We shouldn't be down for more than 10 minutes or so.

System Downtime Sunday

The payperpost.com site will be down for about an hour on Sunday at 9pm. We'll be upgrading the ram on two of our application servers to help them handle the growth we've been experiencing.

Moving this blog to TypePad

I am pleased to announce that we will be moving our blog to TypePad on Monday. We will be splitting this blog into five blogs: Posties, Advertisers, Developers, Community and a summary that includes everything wrapped into one. I am really looking forward to all of the features that Typepad has to offer, most specifically trackbacks and categories.

PPP Direct Typepad widget

Some of you may or may not know that when we launched PPP Direct we also launched a special PPP Direct TypePad widget that makes it really easy to install our code. The team over at Six Apart has been great to work with. They are very understanding of Blogger desires and are open to new ideas.

If you haven't checked out their platform and you are considering a switch click here to check it out.

There's only one thing on the dev team's mind!
Warning: Don't allow Ted anywhere near you with a Sharpie!

Saturday Saturday Saturday!

The focus group for Argus will be held this Saturday at 10am. So far it looks like we have Kat, Tim, Cheryl, Colleen and Cheryl. If you would like to join just let us know.

Next Gen PPP - You Help Pick the Date/Time
There seems to be a number of scheduling conflicts for our local and quasi local Posties and Advertisers for the Focus Groups newt week. Unfortunately the information is too sensitive to do this online, wish we could. The last thing we want is screens of the new site floating around before we launch this thing : )

So I have a few options:
Thursday the 19th at 7:00pm - Me, Pete and team
Saturday the 21st at 10:00am - Pete and team (I won't be there)
Tuesday the 24th at 7:00pm - Me, Pete and team

We will conduct the Focus Group on the day when the most people can attend. Hope I get to see you all!
