System Maintenance Tonight

Hello there!

Just a heads up, we'll be closing shop for a few minutes tonight to perform some system maintenance at 10:15 PM EST.  So, be sure to get all your posts submitted before that, so you don't hit any errors.

We are going to roll out a few bug fixes and one new feature on the reviewer side of the application. The changes include the following:

Fixaroos:
PPPDirect offers will can now be canceled by Advertisers without throwing errors
Excluded domains do not separate when an Opp fails to submit
All emails have our updated suite number
Advertisers can sort their Opps and the sort will include video Opps
System has extended the range of allowable values for credit cards

Enhancement:
Reviewers can now ban a blogger from all the accounts of an Advertiser

This last item is the only new feature that we are rolling out. This feature will allow a reviewer to ban a blogger from multiple Advertiser accounts. Some of our Advertisers have more than one account, and when they ban a blogger, they want it to reflect in all their accounts- now it will.  This can only be done by our team, upon an Advertiser's request.  We've been doing this manually for a short period now, so if you happen to find multiple bans, this is probably what happened.

Questions, comments, old family recipes?  Be sure to send them to us by clicking on the Contact Support link, at the bottom of any page in your account.  Thanks!

Guys this is great but shouldn't the multiple bans only count as 1 against a tack rating not 265 times?

So far, knock wood, I haven't had the multiple-hundred bans some have. Even though it hasn't affected me so far, it's a crying shame you can't figure out a way for advertisers to praise (tack rate) bloggers in a similar fashion. I guess reviewer ban across multiple accounts is just a lot easier than reviewer praise across the same accounts?

Have these agencies actually polled the people they work for to find out if the individual advertisers really all want a blogger banned? It's obvious that these are advertising agents who are running the show for numerous others. Just because their name is on the account doesn't mean they actually produce all those markets themselves. It's really not fair to mass-ban in this way, reduce a blogger's ability to earn from PPP to zero, then come here and boast about this new feature. Better to boast when you've got an alternative in place as well.

PPP has said they can't force advertisers to tack rate bloggers. So, why make it so stinking easy to ban them? Let the onus be on the advertisers to do both, or neither.

There has been a lot of discussion around the office about this problem. Believe me, we hear your complaints loud and clear. The problem here is that bans serve two functions. First and foremost they prevent a blogger from taking further posts on the opps from that advertiser. This is the main reason we need to create the bans. The advertising agency has the right to veto certain bloggers from taking their opps. Secondly, bans affect your tack rating. When we created the system we never anticipated that we would have one representative with such numerous accounts. The system was not designed with this scenario in mind.

I don't want to make any promises here, but I have heard a lot of discussion about this problem. I know that we're definitely going to make a change. I think that the general consensus is to change the system so that the mass bans only count as one ban against the tack rating. This change however is not simple and it will involve rewriting a portion of the application, and then we have to test the new code. I wouldn't want to rush out a fix that screwed up everyones tack ratings! So I can promise that we are not ignoring the problem. But also, we simply can't undo the entire tack rating system with the flip of a switch.
